Letters To (and From) Cupid

Hey - Thanks for writing me. You guys have some tough questions, and I'm not always sure that I have any answers at all, at least not the ones that you want. Really, people have been trying to figure out this love stuff for centuries, and haven't managed to, so I'm not sure that I really can. But, I will tell you, that love is really just a whole lot of chemistry, and there's not much you can do about chemistry - it pops up in the oddest places, and is nowhere to be found in other places that seem pretty obvious. That's what my best friend always says, and he's right. That said, I do have a trick or two up my sleeves, so I'm happy to try.

If you've got questions, you can check out my FAQ, and if you're just curious about me, read my bio. And of course, you can always shoot me an email at cupid@tinkertank.org.

Dear Cupid

What can I do to make this boy that I like like me too?

- Sophie

Sweet Sophie

That’s a tough one. In general, I’d say there’s not a whole lot that you can do other than just be yourself. That’s the most important thing. If a boy likes you, you want him to like you for exactly who you are, not someone you are pretending to be because you THINK that’s what he’ll like.

You can also try just talking to him, and joining some of the same clubs, groups and classes that he’s in. I have always found that that’s the best way to get to know someone, and see if you really like who they are after you interact with them that way.

If you really think he’s the one (for now, anyway) and he’s not paying any attention to you, drop me another note, and I can try to do a surprise visit. But, if I don’t agree with you, I’m not likely to do anything at all.

And, as I’m sure your mom has told you, there are plenty of fish in the sea. Really.
